Our Mission
Using the sailing vessel to encourage self-reliance, foster greater historical awareness, and to visit significant locations relative to the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
Marcus Asante is the Director of Middle and Modern Passages (MMP). He has worked for numerous sailing and educational institutions and has sailed thousands of miles in dinghies, small keelboats, and large cruising vessels. His work with young people and boats is almost legendary. Marcus is a Marine Systems graduate of The Landing School in Maine, and is the founder of Universal Sailing Club, an African- American sailing club based on the Chesapeake Bay.
