Our Mission
Using the sailing vessel to encourage self-reliance, encourage the study of maritime cultures, and to visit significant locations relative to the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
Marcus Asante is the Director of Middle and Modern Passages. He has worked for numerous sailing and educational institutions, and has logged thousands of nautical miles at the helm of a great variety of power and sailing vessels. His work with young people and boats is almost legendary. Marcus is a Marine Systems graduate of The Landing School in Maine, and is the founder of Universal Sailing Club, an African- American sailing club based on the Chesapeake Bay.
